Benefits of Certification

Staying Current

Today’s professional is increasingly being expected to evidence continuing education and greater experience – a college diploma represented a certain point in time. A Certification tells employers, clients, potential clients and fellow professional that you have continued to hone your skills – and have kept current on latest best-practices within your profession.

Earning and maintaining your certification demonstrates how you effectively implement that knowledge in the workplace every day.

Professional Reputation and Credibility

Certification is a personal accomplishment and unbiased barometer of your skills and shows initiative and drive when certification is not required. Certification also distinguishes you from your peers and can increase your opportunities for career advancement, finding new clients, and potentially increasing your income.

Client Trust

Earning and maintaining your certification validates and provides assurance to consumer and clients; your industry professionals and employers that through participation in continuous professional development activities they can be confident certification holders are keeping up with the new techniques and changes in their chosen field.

How Do I Remain Certified?

Understanding the Difference Between Certificates and Certification

Certificate Programs and Certification are an increasing segment of many industries. We understand that with new items and change that there can be confusion of the different terms and what they mean. For our purposes, we define the following terms as such:

  • Certificate Programs indicate successful completion of a course, or series of courses, that recognize a specialty area of practice or set of skills. This demonstrates knowledge at a set time and has no ongoing requirements.
  • Professional Certifications are time-limited recognition evidencing competency as measured against predetermined and standardized criteria, typically by application and/or exam. These standardized criteria can include both academic and non-academic accomplishments such as hours in practice and licensure requirements. Certifications have ongoing requirements to maintain certification that require the holder to demonstrate s/he continues to meet or exceed the requirements set by the organization.
